Nell Yarborough Garrett, of Clarksville, Virginia passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at the age of 94. She was born in Person County, NC to the late Obie N. Yarboro, Sr. and Flora McCann Yarboro. Nell is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years Frank Randolph Garrett.
Nell worked for Robbins Mills, later named Burlington Industries, raised her children, and then worked in the shipping department at Russell Stover Candy Factory, while tending the farm and garden. Nell loved music, cooking, flowers, hummingbirds, and most of all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to sew and crochet. Nell was a member of Union Chapel Baptist Church; and she was not only a member of the choir but she directed it. Nell taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union.
Nell is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Joe Williamson of Clarksville; sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Mary Garrett of Fredericksburg and Timothy and Robin Garrett of Clarksville; grandchildren, Dr. Meredith Nell Williamson, Naomi Garrett Williamson, Greg Williamson, Stephanie Bailey , Cassandra JoAnn Garrett, Victoria Susan Teig, Thomas Randolph Garrett and Nolan Bernard Boyd; great grandchildren, Charles Reid Randolph Nurmi, Katherine Rose Nurmi, Lydia Williamson, Rachel Williamson, Annelise Bailey and Elena Bailey and sisters-in-law, Leona Coleman of Boydton, Marie Yarboro and Kathleen Yarboro.
In addition to her husband Randolph, Nell is preceded in death by her sisters; Dorene Morton, Jennie Williamson, and Anne Yancey, brothers; Obie Yarboro, Jr, Nathaniel Yarboro and Perry Yarboro.
Funeral Service for Nell Garrett will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Union Chapel Baptist Church with a burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will be holding a visitation Wednesday, January 1,2025 at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM.
