Newell Ray Wilkinson

SOUTH BOSTON Mr. Newell Ray Wilkinson of South Boston passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021 at the age of 86. He was born on March 23, 1935 to Robert and Margaret Petty Wilkinson and was married to Faye Wilkinson, who survives. Ray was an engineer for Norfolk Southern Railroad for 42 years. He received his pilot’s license in 1953. He loved his animals and watching football, Redskins being his favorite. He loved trains, old country music and working in his yard. In addition to his wife Faye, he is survived by children, Keith Wilkinson; Vickie Francis and Travis; Cindy Watkins; James Francis; Sandy Huff and Randall; C.T. Boswell and Mandy; and Kayla Hollingsworth; grandchildren, Faith, Kaitlin, Tyler, MacKenzie, Ridge, J.T., Wyatt, Sam, David, Gabby, and T.J.; great grandchildren, Jordan, Ashlee and one on the way, Elena Rae; and numerous other family members. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Ellison and a brother, Gilbert Wilkinson. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends on Friday prior to the service, 12:30-1:30 PM. The family requests those wishing to give memorials please consider your local SPCA.
