Mr. Ocie Fraser Murray of 1014 Eighth St., Virgilina, VA died Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the age of 96. He was born in Granville Co., NC on January 31, 1917 to the late Cabel Flournoy Murray and the late Emily Tuck Murray and was married to the late Pearl Glascock Murray. Mr. Murray was owner/operator of Murray's Shop since 1938 and was a lifetime member of Union Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and a Trustee. He was a charter member of the Virgilina Volunteer Fire Department where he served as a former Chief. Mr. Murray was a member of the Virgilina Town Council from 1972 until 1980 and served as Mayor of Virgilina from 1980 until 1986. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 plus years. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia M. Owen and husband, George of Burlington, NC; two sons, Ocie F. "Sonny" Murray, Jr. and wife, Deborah of Fayetteville, NC and W. Allen Murray and wife, Wanda of South Boston, VA; two granddaughters, Lawanna M. Tetterton and husband, Bill and Trina M. Morris; four grandsons, G. Edward Owen, Jr. and wife, Sabrina, Michael E. Murray and wife, Katherine, David C. Murray and wife, Kimberly, and Jason B. Murray and wife, Marjorie; and twelve great grandchildren, Carter, Paige, Dylan, Connor, Finn, Penelope, Stella, Kayla, Kelsey, Collin, Lauren, and Drew. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ada M. Shotwell, Ruth M. Tuck, and Selma M. Rice, and three brothers, Cabel Sol Murray, Leon Cook Murray, and Herman Murray, Sr.. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Union Christian Church in Virgilina, VA with Rev. Carroll Glasscock and Rev. Norman Talley officiating. Burial will follow in the Virgilina Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Union Christian Church on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM and at other times at the home, 1014 Eighth St., Virgilina, VA.
