Clarksville, VA Oliver Richard “Dick” Smiley, 73, died at his home on Sunday, September 27, 2015.Mr. Smiley was the son of the late Mary Michaels Smiley Turnage and the late Oliver Edison Smiley who died in World War II and still is listed as missing in action.The memorial service will be held at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 30th at 3 PM officiated by The Reverend Joey Tucker.Dick served in the US Air Force during Vietnam.He started his career as a master plumber and electrician at the Newport News shipyard and later owned and operated Smiley’s Plumbing in Clarksville.Mr. Smiley was a member of Masonic Lodge # 306 Poquoson, Va.He was self-taught to play just about any musical instrument and had played with “One More Time” band; he was also an avid hunter and fisherman.Dick is survived by his daughters, Mary Elizabeth Smiley of New Jersey and Peggy Smiley Rusher of Indiana, three step-daughters, Ilene B. Winder of Poquoson, Sarah B. Sprouse of Smith Mountain Lake and Cynthia B. Price of Halifax, his son, Michael Trey Smiley of Clarksville, former wife and soulmate, Tressie B. Potts of Clarksville.He is also survived by four step-daughters, Stacey, Bridgette, Heather and Blair, three grandchildren, Amber Lawrence, David Lawrence and Kylie Griffith, step-granddaughter, Jessica Rusher and several other step-grandchildren.The family will receive friends at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home one hour prior to the memorial service.
