Oneta Wilson Carter

Oneta Wilson Carter of Magnolia Glen, Raleigh, NC, formerly of Boydton, Va., died on March 19, 2013. "Neta" was born in Durham, NC on November 21, 1922 to Alvis H. and Mary E. Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, A. Carl Wilson. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Marvin Owen "M.O." Carter; daughters, Martha Jane Moss and Christi A. Lewis of Cobbs Creek, Va and Mary Elizabeth "Libba" Dupree and husband, Reginald "Rick" Dupree of Fuquay-Varina, NC; grandson Jonathan Andrew "Andy" Moss and wife Karen and great granddaughters, Mackenzie Moss and Kyla Moss also of Cobbs Creek, Va. Neta's sister, Velma Ferrell of Richmond, Va.; sister-in-law, Virginia Price Robertson; nieces Van Owen and husband, Bill of Richmond, Va.; Jane Turner of Mobile, Alabama, Angela Tabaracci and husband, Joe of Bastrop, Texas; nephew, Bruce Timothy Wilson of Virginia Beach, Va.; a special cousin, Cordelia Blalock of Durham, NC; and Goddaughter, Beth Park Shore. Neta was active in county government, having happily served the taxpayers for more than 29 years, first as Chief Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue and retiring as Mecklenburg County Commissioner of the Revenue in 1982. In addition, she and M. O. were florists and antique dealers. Neta also loved painting watercolors and oils and her paintings are cherished by her family. She was a member of Boydton United Methodist Church for 57 years, and enjoyed membership in the Prestwould Foundation, Boyd Tavern Foundation, McCallum-Moore Museum and Gardens, as well as numerous others. Friends in the Fuquay-Varina and Cobbs Creek areas are invited to the respective homes of the daughters on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. Services will be held at Easters United Methodist Church, 2779 Easters Road in Boydton at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, with interment following in Easters United Methodist Church Cemetery. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a reception at The Boyd Tavern, 449 Washington Street in Boydton. Memorials may be made to Easters United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O.
