Mrs. Ophelia Wilson Brogden of 1404 Moore St., South Boston, VA died Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the age of 84. She was born in Halifax Co., VA on September 29, 1928 to the late Silas J. Wilson and the late Myrtle Nelson Wilson and was married to the late Harold Bradcher Brogden. Mrs. Brogden was a homemaker and was a member of Florence Ave. Baptist Church and the DAV Auxiliary. She was a beloved "Good Mama" by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Survivors include a son, Ricky A. Brogden and his wife, Sharon of South Boston, VA; four sisters, Willie Long of Roxboro, NC, Allena Elliott of Virgilina, VA, Ednes Wilson of Blackstone, VA, and Janey Reaves of South Boston, VA; six grandchildren, Karen Lee Butler, Master Sgt. Ray Allen Butler, Nicholas Brian Butler, Shane Allen Brogden, Elisabeth Cayce Brogden, and Sarah Bliss Brogden; two great grandchildren, Brendan Reid and chase Allen Butler; Son-in-law, Raymond Butler and his wife, Terry; and a devoted caregiver, Daisy Franklin. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one daughter, Joy Brogden Butler, and eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Florence Ave. Baptist Church with Rev. John Eure and Rev. Allen Boggs officiating. Burial will follow in Virgilina Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service on Friday.
