Owen Smith Vernon

ALTON, VA Mr. Owen Smith Vernon passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 at the age of 71. Born in Halifax County on April 28, 1946, he was the son of the late T. A. Vernon and the late Myrtle A. Williamson Vernon.Owen enjoyed being outside, hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time with family and friends. He was a retired government tobacco grader and served his country in the United States Air Force. Owen is survived by a brother, James A. Vernon of Alton; nephews, Jason N. Vernon of Alton, Kevin J. Vernon of Phoenix, AZ; and a niece, Holly A. Vernon of South Boston. Funeral services for Owen Vernon will be Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Betty B. Jones Chapel with Reverend Randy Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home.
