Payton Hoover Hayes

Clarksville, VA Payton Hoover Hayes, 83, of Clarksville, husband of Nadine W. Hayes, died Saturday, August 26, 2006. A native of Mecklenburg County, Payton was the son of the late Morris Payton and Finnie Mae Jones Hayes. A member of Clarksville Baptist Church where he served as deacon, he was also a member of the Eastern Star #145, VFW 8163, Masonic Lodge #338, 32nd Degrees Past Master, and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Mr. Hayes was an employee of True Value Hardware since 1987 and had previously worked at Davis Hardware from 1965-1987. Funeral services will be 2PM Monday in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with Reverend Henry Lovelace officiating. Masonic Interment Rites will follow in Oakhurst Cemetery. In addition to his wife of 51 years, Payton is survived by daughter & son-in-law Barbara & Robert Hawkins, 3 sisters, Katie Mae Yancey, Francis Driggs and Shannon Skipwith and was pre-deceased by a daughter, Linda Diane Hayes and a sister, Emma Gray Garrett. The family will receive friends 7-9PM Sunday at the funeral home.
