Peggy Hart Thames, widow of Frank Leo Thames, Sr., passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at the age of 92. She was born in Halifax County on May 28, 1927, the daughter of the late Myrtle and James Riley Hart. Peggy was an active member of Nelson Baptist Church, serving on numerous committees over the years and always answering the call for help from the community that she loved. She was a dedicated volunteer with Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital for 15 years. Peggy’s lifelong hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing, cooking, gardening and making porcelain dolls. She was a caring, loving and thoughtful woman who touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Peggy is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth “Betty” Hart Thames of Oxford, NC; daughter-in-law, Kathy C. Thames; grandchildren, Alison Keely Horton, Sarah Lennon (David), Frank Leo “Trey” Thames III, Callie T. Carnes (Burt), and Nicholas Thames; great-grandchildren, Mitchell Morgan, Savannah Lennon, and Luke Lennon, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, her parents, a son, Frank Leo Thames, Jr. Also preceding her in death are brothers, Major Hart, Edward Hart and sisters, Avis Weatherford, Elsie Bagley and Helen Davis. A special thanks to Phyllis S. Forlines and Bernadine Garner for the loving physical care that they gave. According to Peggy’s wishes, a graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Nelson Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Don Wilson officiating.
