Mr. Ralph Newman Elliott, 80, of Virgilina died Friday, September 26, 2008 at The Woodview, South Boston, VA. Mr. Elliott was born November 19, 1927 in Halifax County to the late George Apple Elliott and Gracie Viola Fletcher Elliott. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Claude W. Elliott, Clarence C. Elliott, George A. Elliott, Jr., F. Briggs Elliott, and Alvah F. Pete Elliott. Mr Elliott spent most of his adult life in the Washington DC area before retiring to his beloved home in Virgilina. He was a Certified Public Accountant and an adjunct professor of accounting and ethics at Benjamin Franklin University, now the School of Business and Public Management at the George Washington University. Mr Elliott also taught at Southeastern University in Washington, D.C. He retired as Controller of the Phi Beta Kappa Society Headquarters in Washington, D.C. He had been actively involved in the DC Institute of CPAs as well as the Mended Hearts program at Washington Medical Center. Since his return to Halifax, he spent untold hours as a volunteer with the Literacy Program and as a volunteer at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was a member of the Clarksville Presbyterian Church; the Scottish Rite and was a 32nd degree Mason. Mr Elliott was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving two tours of active duty. Mr. Elliott is survived by his niece Mary Elizabeth and her husband James Seamster of Chesterfield, VA and their children: David and his wife Kensie Seamster of Midlothian, VA and Jennifer Seamster and her fiancé Joseph Krugler of Reston, VA; nephew Charles and his wife Melanie Elliott and their children: Chelsea, Chase and Parker Elliott of Peoria AZ and his sister-in-law Mary Maude Elliott of Midlothian. Also surviving are sister-in-law Grace Sue Elliott of Virgilina and her daughter Enola Gay and her husband David Harvey and their children: Emily, Sarah and Molly Harvey Lynchburg and her daughter Donna Jane Elliott of Rustburg. A Memorial service will be held at Union Christian Church in Virgilina Saturday October 4 at 12 noon.
