Raymond Davis Butler

October 13, 1955 — February 16, 2023

Raymond Davis Butler, age 67, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023. He was born on October 13, 1955. He was the son of the late John Henry and Virginia Ellen Francis Butler. He is survived by his wife Terry Reagan Butler. He was preceded in death by his first wife Joy Brogden Butler who passed in 2007. They were both the greatest blessings of his life.

Raymond always had a love of antique cars. He was an active member of the Tinkers Car club.
He enjoyed participating in car shows and cruising in his old cars. He was also an avid history enthusiast, he enjoyed collecting World War I and German memerabilia. He was a devoted member of American Legion Post 8. He was the current commander of the Honor Guard. He was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard and served from 1978-2004. Raymond served as a usher, greeter, and the President of his Sunday School Class at Dan River Baptist Church.

He always had a way with words and his Raymondisms were always loved by those who knew and loved him. Raymond wanted to be remembered for his respect for others, and his exceptional work ethic. Raymond believed he lead a great life, his belief in God and his family were his the greatest accomplishments.

In addition to his wife, Terry, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Karen and Kyle Butler, Ray and Jamie Butler, Nick Butler, his step daughters and spouses Mary Beth and John Cannon, Jennifer and Tony Martin, and Amy and Craig Barker. His grandchildren, Beau, Jasper, Opal, Brendan, Chase, Drew, Kyle, Erin, Braxten, AnMarie, Julia, Noah, Gracie, Eli, Jax, Lila, Wyatt and Sadie.

Funeral services will be held at Dan River Baptist Church at 2 PM on Sunday February 19, 2023.
Burial will follow in Virgilina Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends Saturday February 18, 2023 from 6-8pm at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends and family at the home 1133 Newton Farm Road, South Boston.

In lieu of flowers please consider the American Legion Post 8 Honor Guard, or the Dan River Baptist Daily Bread.
