Raymond Thornton Yancey

Raymond Thornton Yancey, 85, husband of Jane Overby Yancey, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Raymond was born August 28, 1926 in Granville Co., NC to the late George Washington and Lola Buchanan Yancey. After serving his country in U.S. Army during World War II, Raymond went to work with the Virginia Department of Transportation. He retired from there after 40 years of service. A member of and Deacon of Buffalo Baptist Church, funeral services will be held there Tuesday, 2PM with the Reverends Chris Kiser and Dan Tilley officiating. Interment will follow in Oakhurst Cemetery. In addition to his wife of 61 years, Mr. Yancey is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gwendolyn and Edwin Talley of Buffalo Junction; and sisters, Myrtle Y. Colbert and Janie Y. Wade, both of Chesterfield. The family will receive friends 7-9PM Monday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home.
