Rebecca Thomas Howerton

Rebecca Thomas Howerton of South Boston, VA, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2022, at the age of 62. She was born in Halifax County on December 12, 1959, to the late Cecil Berkley Thomas and Cathryn Green Thomas, who survives. Rebecca worked as a secretary in the public school system. She enjoyed playing bingo, watching her granddaughters play soccer and softball and taking beach trips with family and friends. She was a member at McCanless Memorial United Methodist Church. Rebecca is survived by her husband of 42 years, Frank Edward Howerton; son, Brandon Howerton (Karen); grandchildren, Cadence Howerton and McKenzie Howerton; sister, Sharon Long (David); brother, Roy “Tony” Anthony Thomas; sister-in-law, Carol Thomas; mother-in-law, Ruby Howerton and a host of nephews and a niece and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, David Thomas and father-in-law, Frank Edgar Howerton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 3, 2022, in the chapel of Brooks Lyon Funeral Home with Dr. Virginia Jones officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and at other times at the home of Brandon and Karen, 2137 Cluster Springs Road, South Boston.
