Rebecca Short Thompson

Rebecca Short Thompson, widow of James Wilson Thompson, of Oxford, NC,  went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 4, 2024 at the age of 79. She was born in Oxford on August 28, 1944 the daughter of the late Herbert Riddick Short and the late Dorothy Wilson Short. Rebecca was a former tour guide for Holiday Bus Tours and worked alongside Jimmy at Burlington Industries. She loved collecting and displaying her dolls, enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a huge Jeff Gordon fan. Her family was the most important part of her life.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by her daughter, Barbara Elliott of Bullock, NC; son, Randall Thompson of Norfolk, VA; sister, Patricia Tingen (Mike) of Oxford, NC; granchildren. Grant Altizer (Sabrina), Dannie May (Brittney), Chris Elliott (Jessica), Jeffrey May, Jessica Baker (Willie), Josh Williams (Jenna), Kim Lowery Wyatt, and Robbie Lowery; 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Jean Martin, son, Bobby Ray Williams, daughter, Sharon Lowery, and son-in-law, Dale Elliott.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Stovall Methodist Church with Reverend Johnny Yount and Reverend Greg Richardson. Burial will follow in Meadowview Memorial Park in Oxford. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
