Remona Lee Throckmorton Murray, of South Boston, was born in Halifax County on June 29, 1946 and passed away on May 16, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Hodges and Geneva Newbill Throckmorton and was married to the late William E. Murray.
She is survived by her children, Willie R. Murray and Melinda M. Long (Woody); grandchildren, Corey Conner, Joshua Conner and Brittney Murray; brothers, Hodges “Buster” Throckmorton (Stephanie), Charles Throckmorton (Nora Jean), Donald Throckmorton (Carol) and Harvey Throckmorton (Betsye); and sisters in law, Bonnie Fox (Donald), Cheryl Barber (Ricky) and Tina Walker. She was preceded in death by two brothers in law, Ricky and Buddy Walker.
Remona was a very kind and gentle soul that loved her Lord, her husband and her family. Family joked that she went to church every time the door was open until Alzheimer’s robbed her of her golden years. Remona had been a member of several churches throughout her life. She sang in the choir and served as a teacher for Bible school as well as Sunday school. Remona also was a former member of the South Boston Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary.
There will be a Celebration of Life at the Scottsburg Baptist Church at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 19, 2024 with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Kermit Evans will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery.
A special thanks to all of those that faithfully sent her cards, prayed for her or had any part of her care, especially her beloved sister-in-law, Bonnie and all the wonderful caregivers at Touch of Love, Canterbury House and Authora Care Hospice. You will forever be in our hearts.
Those wishing to give memorials are asked to remember a charity of choice or one of Remona’s favorites, the Halifax County Cancer Association or Scottsburg Baptist Church.
