Rev.Richard P. Cooke of 1065 Herbert Allen Trail, South Boston, VA died Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Duke University Medical Center at the age of 74. He was born in Fountain, NC. on June 10, 1936 to the late Richard Allen Cooke and Ora Virginia Moore Hughes and was married to Gloria D. "Phyliss" Cooke. Rev. Cooke was a member of Aarons Creek Baptist Church, the Aarons Creek Ruritan Club, and the Virgilina Masonic Lodge. During his ministry, he pastored at the following churches in Virginia and North Carolina: Sedley Baptist Church, North Pamunkey Baptist Church, Mount Tabor Baptist Church, and Aarons Creek Baptist Church. After his retirement, he served as interim pastor at a number of Halifax County Churches. Survivors include his wife Gloria D "Phyliss" Cooke of South Boston, VA; mother, Ora Virginia Moore Hughes of Toano, VA; daughter, Gloria Ellen Cooke Crute & her husband, Leonard Glenn Crute of Nathalie, VA; grandchildren, J. Adam Pittman and Rachel Pittman of South Boston, VA; brother, Jerry David Cooke and his wife, Norma of Croaker, VA; sister, Robin Lynn Rutherford and her husband, Scott of Toano, VA, and a number of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 30, at 11 AM at Aarons Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Edward Ellis and Rev. Vance Midgett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Aarons Creek Baptist Church Monday night from 7 until 8:30 and at other times at the home.
