Richard Gale Elliott

Richard Gale Elliott of Nelson, VA, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023, at the age of 61. Born in Halifax County on August 18,1961, he was the son of Charlie Franklin Elliott and Jessie Gordon Elliott and was married to Wanda Griffin Elliott, who survives.  Richard served in the Virginia National Guard Reserve for 8 years where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. Richard worked for the Town of Clarksville as the Director of Operations where he gained of the knowledge to do nearly all the operational functions of the town. He was a member of the Clarksville Volunteer Fire Department since 1980 and was President for 16 years and  with Mecklenburg Rescue Squad for over 15 years. Richard was a lifelong member of Buffalo Baptist Church until he moved his membership to Grace Baptist Church. He served Buffalo Baptist as a Deacon for multiple years, was a vital member of the Youth Committee, and served on numerous other committees and functions.  He sought a personal goal of selflessly having his life consumed with community service, and he humbly did it well.

In addition to his wife Wanda, Richard is survived his two sons, Ricky Elliott, and wife, Janice, of Nelson, and Andy Elliott of Clarksville; two grandchildren, Aidyn Kelly, and Rylee Elliott, who knew him as Papa; one brother, Mac Elliott, and wife, Jenny, of Clarksville, and many other special and beloved family members.  Richard is also remembered by his families of the Clarksville Fire Department and Town of Clarksville. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Jane Elliott.

Funeral Services for Richard Elliott will be Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Buffalo Baptist Church with Jack Stewart and Chet Bergeron officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, Richard's family asks that donations be made in his name to the Clarksville Volunteer Fire Department or St. Jude's Children Hospital.
