Robert "Bob" Dawson

ALTON,VA Mr. Robert Neal “Bob” Dawson of Alton, VA died Friday, March 11, 2016 at the age of 78.He was born in Halifax County on August 11, 1937 to the late Edward Binford Dawson, Sr and the late Lizzie Izella Francis and was married to Ann C. Dawson.Bob was an active member of Alton Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, choir member, fellowship committee, greeter and Sunday school attendee. He was a former member of the Alton Hunting Club, loved working in his yard, and racing & baseball, especially the New York Mets and Richard Petty.Bob was employed with C & Ain Roxboro where he worked as a welder in the maintenance department. Bob is survived by his wife, Ann; daughters, Robin Powell & husband, Terry of Alton, Chrissy Wilson and husband, Mike of South Boston; grandchildren, Dawson Bottoms, Ann Elizabeth Bottoms, Michaela Wilson, and Michael Wilson III; brothers, Bill Dawson, Joe Dawson and Warren Pulliam; sister, Mary Ann Throckmorton and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, E.B. Dawson,Jr., Maynard L. Dawson, James M. Dawson, and L. Melvin Dawson and sisters, Virginia Dawson Hunt, Helen F. Dawson, Margaret Dawson “Polly” Reaves and Katherine Dawson “Kitty” Jones. Funeral services for Mr. Dawson will be Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Alton Baptist Church at 3:00 PM with Reverend Tim Bowes and Reverend Glenn Lutz officiating.Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 13, 2016 from 2:00 to 3:00 prior to the service at Alton Baptist Church.
