Robert Stanley Hughes

Mr. Robert Stanley Hughes of 1154 Cherry Hill Church Rd., South Boston, VA died Monday, June 20, 2011 at the age of 77. He was born in Halifax Co., VA on June 22, 1933 to the late Charles Bruce Hughes and the late Annie Stanley Hughes and was married to Carol Bowes Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a repair man and was a member of Black Walnut Baptist Church. He was a former member of the Cluster Springs Vol. Fire Dept. and the Halifax Co. Rescue Squad and was a community handyman for over 35 years. Survivors include his wife, Carol Bowes Hughes of South Boston, VA; a son, Donnie Hughes of South Boston, VA; a half sister, Evelyn Smith of Roxboro, NC ; three grandchildren, Shay Hughes and wife, Margaret, Caleigh Hughes, and Jake Hughes; two great grandchildren, Malcolm Hughes and Robbie Hughes; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie B. Hughes; a sister, Ruth O'Conner; and a half sister, Sally Martin. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Black Walnut Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Wooten officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Wednesday from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home, 1154 Cherry Hill Church Rd., South Boston, VA.
