Robert Augustus Martin

Robert Augustus Martin, 87,passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021, in Wilmington, NC. He was born on August 24, 1933, in Henderson, NC, to the late Bessie Mae Strickland Martin and the late John Uriah Martin, Sr. Robert spent much of his childhood in Hamlet, NC, before moving to the Raleigh area. There he graduated from Needham & Broughton High School and attended Campbell College and enlisted in the US Navy in 1953 for four years.In 1964, he married his sweetheart, Dorinda Conner, who survives. He lived and worked in Georgia, Lumberton and finally in Wilmington, where he retired in 1998 as a Roadmaster for CSX Railroad. In addition to his wife of 56 years, Robert is survived by sons, Robert Steven Martin and his wife, Melissa, of Raleigh and James Ernest Martin of Wilmington; granddaughter, Kelsey Ann Martin and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, John Uriah Martin, Jr., Virginia Meacham and Louise Porter. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, April 2, 2021, at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home with the Reverend Chris McGee officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Scottsburg, VA. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 12:30 P.M.The funeral service will be streamed on Brooks Lyon's Facebook page. The family will receive friends and loved ones at the home of Stan Conner, 165 Lake Blvd. Buffalo Junction, 24529 any time before Robert's service.
