Roger Martin

November 30, 1951 — April 20, 2025

Roger Lee Martin, age 73, passed away on April 20, 2025 in Vail, Arizona with his wife and children by his side. He was born on November 30, 1951 in Halifax County VA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Lee Martin and Mary Arden Martin and one sister, Betty Dale Keatts.


He served in the US Army and later worked for VDOT for over 30 years. He loved his wife Susan, who was the love of his life for over 45 years. They loved Arizona so much they moved there over 12 years ago. They enjoyed taking road trips together and were able to visit 48 states during their short time together. Roger enjoyed spending time with his family and most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved his service dog "Sam" immensely. Those two spent a lot of time walking, shopping, and playing together. He would always let people know about Jesus whenever he could, whom he met face to face with on Easter Sunday. He was an avid sports fan, especially a Tarheel and Redskin fan. He loved giving his daughter a hard time for being a Duke and Cowboys fan. He loved his hot tub. He spent hours hanging out with his son David just talking to each other while relaxing. He loved watching Walker Texas Ranger and The Lone Ranger with his son as well.


He is survived by his wife, Susan Puckett Martin. They were married for 45 wonderful years; one son, David Martin; One Daughter, Bethanne Vicks and husband Ted; his service dog, Sam; 7 grandchildren, Jessie Guill & husband Jay of Roxboro NC, Zachary Epps & wife Savannah of South Boston VA, Logan Epps of South Boston VA, Sydney Vicks of South Boston VA, Bryan Vicks & wife Julie of Farmville VA, Skylar Vicks & wife Lizzie of Vernon Hill VA, bonus grandchild Jasmine Bauer; and by 7 great grandchildren, Christopher Guill, Arabella Guill, Mavis Guill, Kohen Vicks, Rosalie Spigler-Jones, Layla Jones, & Raelynn Epps who will be here in October.


A Celebration of Life for Roger will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 3:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home.
