Roosevelt Nelson

Roosevelt Nelson, 77, husband of Margie O. Nelson, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at his home. Roosevelt was born in Halifax County and grew up in the Nelson area and was the son of the late John and Berta Lowery Nelson. A farmer, Roosevelt was retired from the Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer. He was a member of the Virgilina Volunteer Fire Department; and a great neighbor. Funeral services will be 3PM Thursday at Nelson Baptist Church with the Reverends Don Wilson, Norman Talley, Jim McAlister and Buddy Rose officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In addition to his wife of 56 years, Roosevelt is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and Kenneth Duncan of Roxboro, NC; sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Theresa Nelson and Larry and Crystal Nelson, all of Nelson, and Charles and Ruth Nelson of Buffalo Junction; and adopted son, Victor Jaurex Fernandex. Eight grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, brother, John R. Nelson of Virgilina and sisters, Virgie McCann of Roxboro, NC, Nannie Taylor and Lucy Nelson, both of Richmond; and his caregiver, Alisha Bass, also survive. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-9PM at Nelson Baptist Church. Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
