Mr. Roy M. Hunt of 104 Robin Hood Rd, South Boston died Sunday, March 16, 2014 at the age of 86. He was born in Halfiax County, VA on September 7, 1927 the son of the late Talmadge “E.T.” Hunt and the late Nadine Moeschler Hunt and was married to the late Shirley Daniel Hunt. Mr. Hunt was a member of Black Walnut Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday School Teacher and song leader. He was also an active member of the American Legion Post 8, where he served on the Honor Guard, and a member of the VFW Post 8243 and was a retired engineer for CenturyLink. Mr. Hunt is survived by a daughter, Patricia Hunt Dobson and husband, Carlton of Nathalie, VA; a son, John Kevin Hunt and wife, Colleen of Chesapeake, VA; one sister, Laura Whitely of Richmond, VA; two grandchildren, Timothy Daniel Dobson and girlfriend, Kristina Henry, and Rebecca Compton and husband, Aaron; and a number of special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one grandchild, Mary Beth Dobson; three brothers, Billy Hunt, Edwin Hunt and Sidney Hunt; and three sisters, Helen Gosnell, Marguerite H. Siegmund and Dorothy H., Casper. Funeral services for Mr. Roy M. Hunt will be held Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Black Walnut Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Wooten officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Friday, March 21, 2014 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and at other times at his home.
