Mr. Roy Adams Smith, Sr. of 1216 River Rd., South Boston, VA died Friday, April 20, 2012 at the age of 87. He was born in Halifax Co., VA on August 7, 1924 to the late E.A. Smith and the late Minnie Meadows Smith and was married to Eva Shields Smith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a retired building contractor. Mr. Smith was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Woodmen of the World Lodge 106, South Boston, VA. Survivors include his wife, Eva Shields Smith of South Boston, VA; a daughter, Jane S. Puryear and husband, Randy of Buffalo Junction, VA; a son, Roy A. Smith, Jr. and wife, Jenny of Halifax, VA; five grandchildren, Marshall Puryear and wife, Lori of Nelson, VA, Bryant Puryear and wife, Violet of Nelson, VA, Laura P. Slagle & husband, Bruce of South Boston, VA, Beth Smith of Raleigh, NC, and Adam Smith of Halifax, VA; and six great grandchildren, Kayla Puryear, Kortney Puryear, Lillie Puryear, and Tommy Lee Hite, all of Nelson, VA, and Braeden Slagle and Morgon Slagle, both of South Boston, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lester Smith. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Kopco officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home.
