Mrs. Ruby Owen Wagstaff McNair, 93, widow of Hunter Rice Wagstaff, Jr. and Irving M. McNair, died Saturday, October 06, 2007 in South Boston Manor. Daughter of the late William Thomas and Nannie Puryear Owen, Ruby was a graduate of Farmville State Teachers College, now known as Longwood College. She taught for 10 years in the Mecklenburg County School System and was an LPN at Halifax Regional Hospital for 10 years. Ruby was also the local news correspondent for The News Progress, covering the Buffalo Junction community. Services will be graveside 11AM Monday, October 8th at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Jane Lyon and Mrs. Marie Rose officiating. Mrs. McNair is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and William Franklin Runkle of Waynesboro; step-sons, Irving M. McNair, Jr. of Morristown, NJ, Charles T. McNair of Lafeyette, PA. and Grayson E. McNair of Macungle, PA. Also surviving are grandchildren, William Hunter Runkle of Staunton and Elizabeth Gayle Runkle Edwards and her husband, Bryan of Wayneseboro; and sisters, Alma Owen Hite of South Boston, Frances Owen Fleming of Richmond, and Alice Owen Runkle of Waynesboro. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Mary Alice Runkle. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
