Russell Gilmer Meeler

Russell Gilmer Meeler of South Boston passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023 at the age of 78. He was born in Halifax County on April 30, 1944 to the late William G. Meeler and the late Alice Duncan Meeler. He is survived by his wife, Judy Rice Meeler.

Gilmer was the owner of Meeler Insurance Agency. He had a passion for old cars and loved fishing, racing, antiques, bird hunting and golfing. He was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife Judy, he is survived by his daughter, Haley Faith Thames and a sister, Katherine Meeler. He was preceded in death by his parents and step son, Lance T. Thames.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Ash Avenue Baptist Church with Reverend Tim Mull officiating. Burial will follow at Black Walnut Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 13, 2023 from 6:30-8:00 PM at Brooks Lyon Funeral Home.
