Russell Franklin Short

Mr. Russell Franklin Short, Sr., 85, of 8151 L. P. Bailey Memorial Hwy., Halifax, VA died Friday, January 29, 2010 at His Home. He was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on August 22, 1924, the son of the late Woody Thomas Short and the late Willie Wilson Ridgeway Short. Mr. Short was a retired security guard for Georgia Pacific and a farmer. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Millstone, VFW Post 8243, and The American Legion in Volens. Survivors include his wife, Annie Virginia Davis Short; 3 sons, Russell Franklin Short, Jr., and wife, Shirley, Kelly Wayne Short, and Jerry Short & friend, Pam Vernon all of Halifax; 6 daughters, Teresa S. Martin & husband, Lee, Audrey Short, and Ann S. Spangler all of Halifax, Carolyn S. Wilson Riddle & friend Larry Heldreth of Virgilina, Cathy S. Spangler & husband Frankie of Cluster Springs, and Phyllis S. Lindley of Cluster Springs and her friend Pearly Shull of Roxboro, NC; a special family friend, Charles Ferguson of Vernon Hill; 1 brother, Rufus Short & wife Patricia of Republican Grove; 1 sister, Zella S. Reisner of Roanoke; 12 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 10 step-great grandchildren He was preceded in death by 1 grandchild, Bridget Renee’ Short; and numerous brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Millstone with Garnett Short and Rev. Robert Blake officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Monday night from 7 until 8:30 pm and at other times at the home.
