Ruth Flinn Poteat

CLARKSVILLE, VA. Ruth Flinn Poteat, 85, of Clarksville, VA passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014. She was born February 9, 1929 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia to the late Clarence Beckett and Verna Morrison Flinn. Ruth was born and raised in Clarksville. Mrs. Poteat was widowed from George Lamar Poteat whom she married November 8, 1947 at Jeffress Baptist Church. Ruth worked 34 years at the Craddock Terry factory and for 10 years at Lake Apparel. Mrs. Poteat is survived by sister Doris F. Dalton of Skipwith; daughters and sons-in-law Jean P. (Melvin) Panther of Boydton, Joyce P. (Jimmy) Fantaski of Marshall, Janet P. (Don) Kegley of South Hill, Jackie P. (James) Hatcher of South Hill; son and daughter-in-law George C. (Christian) Poteat of Clarksville; brother-in-law Harry Vance Poteat of Goldsboro, NC; sister-in-law Estelle P. Powell of South Boston. Ruth is also survived by grandchildren David L. Smoot, William “Dee” King, C. Alan Panther, Eric T. Fantaski, Brian J. Fantaski, and George C. Poteat II; and great-grandchildren Abigail Panther, Megan King, and Rachel Panther. Mrs. Poteat was preceded in death by her husband, George Lamar Poteat, grandchild Rachel M. Panther and great-grandchild Bethany Nicole Stsing Panther. Visitation will be held at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home in Clarksville, VA on Sunday, December 28 at7:00-9:00 pm .Graveside services will be held at Bluestone Cemetery on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 2:00 pm officiated by the Reverend Jane Lyon.
