Selma "Patsy" Lee Wilkerson Gayle

Selma “Patsy” Lee Gayle of Virgilina, formerly of Suffolk, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at the age of 88. She was born on April 25, 1932 in Brunswick County to her father, George Thomas Wilkerson from Virgilina and mother, Mabel Daniel of Brunswick County. They moved to Virgilina shortly after her birth. Patsy graduated from Virgilina High School and received her nursing degree from King’s Daughters Hospital School of Nursing. Patsy married Henry Leslie Gayle, Jr. and worked at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital in Suffolk for nearly 50 years. Upon retirement Henry and Patsy moved to Virgilina. She was a member at High View Baptist Church in Roxboro. Patsy is survived by her children, Carolyn Youngk (John) of Virgilina, Nancy Rice (Roger) of Roxboro and Henry Leslie Gayle III (Patricia) of Virgilina; grandchildren, Elizabeth Andre, Paula Youngk, Rachael Burton, Rebekah Prather, Sarah Ness, Daniel Youngk, Matthew Rice, Katie Buchanan, Lori Rice, Brandon Gayle, Emily Gayle, Crystal Ward; brother, Willie Wilkerson of Portsmouth and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Bernard and James Wilkerson, and grandchildren, Amy Rice and Michelle Puryear. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at High View Baptist Church with the Reverend Avery Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in Virgilina Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and all other times at Patsy's home. Online condolences may be made at www.wclfh.com.
