Mrs. Shirley Hackney Blalock of 103 Elizabeth Court, South Boston, VA died Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the age of 69. She was born in Halifax Co., VA on April 18, 1943 to the late Charles Henry Hackney and the late Hallie Powell Hackney and was married to Jeffrey Blalock. Mrs. Blalock was retired from tobacco warehouse retailing. Survivors include her husband, Jeffrey Blalock of South Boston, VA; pet bird, Homer; sister, Thelma Hackney Guill and husband, Larry of South Boston, VA; nephew, Travis Guill of Blacksburg, VA; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; special friends, Johny Turner of Scottsburg, VA, Joan Spencer of Richmond, VA; Shirley Watts and husband, Joe of Scottsburg, VA, Judy Martin & family of Halifax, VA and Alfred Ligon. She was preceded in death by her parents, special cousins, Lennie Clements, Harvey Watts, and David Hackney, special aunts and uncles, special friends, Jeanette Ligon, Corrie Mae Griffin, Mary Watts Conner, and Harvey Watts, and special loving dogs, Spanky and Birdie. Graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Oak Ridge Cemetery with Rev. David Rathel officiating. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home.
