Shirley Layne Newcomb

SOUTH BOSTON, VA-Mrs. Shirley Layne Newcomb of Scottsburg, VA died Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the age of 75.Scottsburg, VA. - She was born in Halifax County, VA on December 8, 1940 to the late Thornton Halifax Layne and the late Maggie May Beadles. She was married to the late Joe Thomas Newcomb.Shirley loved reading and talking to her family and friends. She was a home healthcare nurse for 50 years. Mrs. Newcomb is survived by daughters; Marcia M. Lacks and fiancé, Patrick Ferraro, Jr. of South Boston; Brenda Bolick and husband, Obed of Scottsburg; sons, Ronald Ray Perkins and wife Janet; David Edward Perkins and wife Rita all of South Boston; 14 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren; and a sister, Faye Ferguson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe and a number of brothers, sisters and other family members. The family will have a memorial service for Mrs. Newcomb on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 2:00 PM at The Worship Center, 1011 South Of Dan School Rd, South Boston.
