Silas Linwood Hite, 79, husband of Beverly Clewis Hite, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 at MeadowView Terrace in Clarksville. Linwood was born March 17, 1935 to the late Silas Costello and Hallie Nunn Hite. A graduate of Clarksville High School, Linwood served his country in the United States Air Force and worked for J.P. Stevens in Florida and Atlanta as a Regional Sales Manager. He moved to Clarksville in 1974 and at that time purchased Willis Department Store. He expanded to five stores, renaming them Hite's Department Store. Linwood retired in 2002. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with the Reverend Rodney Barwick officiating. Interment will follow with Masonic Rites at Gravel Hill Cemetery. In addition to his wife of 55 years, Mr. Hite is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gwendolyn and Jeffrey Bell of Youngsville, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Linwood C. and Amanda Hite of Nelson; sister and brother-in-law, Gwendolyn and Ray Talley of Virgilina; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald Leon and Merry Lou Hite of Buffalo Junction and Dale Lane Hite of Clarksville. His grandchildren, Silas Linwood Hite, II, Madeline Grace Hite, Grayson Scott Bell and Hailey Marie Bell.
