Stanley Gene Pitts

Clarksville, VA Stanley Gene Pitts, husband of Janice Preusse Pitts, passed away at his residence on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the age of 82. He was born on March 8, 1938 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma to the late Ogene and Lucille Cox Pitts. Stan held a Masters degree in Education and taught Physical Education at the University of Maryland for 20 years. He also held the position of Head Track Coach at the University of Maryland. Stan lived in Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia and Pennsylvania before settling in Mecklenburg County. He was a real estate agent with E.R.A. Clarksville Auction and Real Estate and served on the Brightleaf Board of Realtors. Ever active in the community, Stan was also past president of the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce. Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Janice; daughters, Victoria Traugot of St. Augustine, FL and Arlene Pitts-Zele of Beaver, PA; sons, Eric Pitts of Clarksville, VA and Bruce Pitts of Bethesda, MD and ; 8 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. He also is survived by his brother Mark Pitts of Richmond, VA. Stan is predeceased by his parents, Ogene and Lucille Pitts, as well as his brother, Jimmy Pitts. The family will have a Memorial Service on Friday, September 11th at 2:00 pm in the Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home Chapel.The Reverend Bill Baker will officiate.
