Stanley Sizemore Yancey

January 14, 1950 — June 3, 2021

Stanley Sizemore Yancey, 71, of Buffalo Junction, VA peacefully went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, June 3rd, 2021 after a courageous battle with kidney cancer. Stan was the epitome of a gentleman and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and loyal customers. Stan was born on January 14th, 1950 in Oxford, NC. He grew up in Clarksville, VA and graduated from Bluestone High School in Skipwith, VA. He began working at a young age at Vaughan’s Foods.He truly loved working and eventually opened his own convenience store, Country Corner, with his wife Susie. Country Corner has been a cornerstone in the community where many friendships have grown for over 30 years. Stan loved his home and found great joy in cutting grass and taking care of his property. Not too long ago, he added a donkey to his family. He truly loved Marvin who brought him great joy and companionship. Stan was preceded in death by his wife Susan Yancey; his parents, Ledford Sizemore Yancey and Pauline Williamson Bannister and his beloved brother Steve Yancey. Survivors include brother Timothy S. Bannister and wife Lisa of Fuquay-Varina, NC; sister Jaymee B. May and husband Doug of Apex, NC; brother Jimmie S. Bannister of Cary, NC. Sister-in-law Nellie Yancey of Wake Forest, NC. Nephews and nieces include Ryan Bannister and wife Kathleen, Hunter Bannister, Jordan May, Dillon May, Steven Yancey and wife Amy. A celebration of life service will be held at 11am on Saturday, June 12th, 2021 at Gravel Hill Baptist Church, 1662 Carters Point Road, Buffalo Springs, VA. Graveside service immediately following at Oakhurst Cemetery. Family visitation with light refreshments will follow the service at Stan’s home, 1021 Buffalo Springs Rd., Buffalo Junction. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stan’s memory to: KCCure.org (a nonprofit raising donations to fund kidney cancer research and clinical trials to find a cure.)
