Mr. Stephen Vandrill Thompson, 85, husband of Joyce Fennessy Thompson, died Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Stephen was born March 27, 1925 to Herbert Alfred and Lena Thompson in Sanford, Maine. The family immigrated to England in 1937. A graduate of Keighley College, he served as a fighter pilot with the Royal Air Force in World War II. He returned to the United States in 1961 where his working career as a textile designer with Burlington Industries took him to New York, Raeford and Clarksville. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club while in Raeford; and a member of the Life Saving and Rescue Squad, serving as an ambulance driver of the Auxiliary Service in Clarksville. He was a faithful member of Jamieson Memorial United Methodist Church, where he held various offices. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday at Jamieson Memorial United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dale Gillis officiating. In addition to his wife of 55 years, Mr. Thompson is survived by his son Christopher Edward Thompson. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Mark Thompson.
