Sergeant Thomas Oscar Bowen, Sr of Virgilina passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at the age of 78. He was born on October 16, 1946 to the late H.M. Bowen and the late Doris Lowery Bowen. He is survived by his wife, Linda Carter Bowen, of the home.
Thomas was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 8 and a lifetime member of DAV. He was a Vietnam veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star. He loved his family, hunting, farming and his horses. Known by many on the CB radio as "TR", he enjoyed sitting on his porch with his "porch sitting" friend, Mary Daniel.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Sherry Bowen Tuck (David), Thomas Oscar Bowen, Jr (Angela) & Paula Roxanne Bowen; grandchildren, Samantha Tuck, Jessica Bowen Nichols (John), Katie Bowen Wilkins (Adam), Morgan Bowen Dickerson (Dane), Mason Lewis Bowen (Sydney), Terri Faison (Carter) & Tyra Ann Murray; great grandchildren, Jaelynn Michelle Tuck, Cristiana Marie Chappell, McKennon Thomas Crute, Kenley Grey Crute, Braxton Davis Nichols, Charlie Hollins Nichols, Graylee Rose Wilkins, Harper Lynn Wilkins, Lyle Scott Dickerson, Levi Clarence Faison & Clayton Louis Faison; brothers, Ronnie Ray Bowen (Kathy), Vance Bailey Bowen (Rita) & Cecil Lowery Bowen (Ramona); sisters-in-law, Judy Carter Treadway, Dorothy Comer Bowen & Jackie Carter and his little buddy, Oscar.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Terry Mason Bowen; grandsons, Clinton Wayne Tuck & Christopher David Tuck, brother, Harold Randal Bowen; brothers-in-law, Verlin Walker & Norvin Wayne Carter; father-in-law, John Thomas Carter; and mother-in-law, Verlie Walker Carter.
The family would like to express a special thanks to his "porch sitting" friend "Mecklenburg" (Mary Daniel), caregivers at 1st Care, Care Advantage and his Hospice Team.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at North Fork Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Chris Talley officiating followed with Military Honors.
