Thomas James "Beverly" Chappell

Mr. Thomas James "Beverly" Chappell, Sr. of 1035 Chappell Trail, Vernon Hill died Monday, November 22, 2010 at the age of 69. He was born in Halifax County on December 17, 1940 to the late John Woodson Chappell and the late Nannie Gammon Chappell and was married to Beulah Perkins Chappell. Mr. Chappell was a farmer and was retired from Burlington Industries. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and a member of American Legion Post 8. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cathy Chappell Tate and husband, Sammy of South Boston; a son, Thomas James "Jamie" Chappell, Jr. of Vernon Hill; two sisters, Barbara C. Laughorn and Cecil C. Puryear both of Vernon Hill; and a brother, James Timothy Chappell of Palm Bay, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Lou Chappell; and two brothers, Aubrey Lee Chappell and John William Chappell. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 26, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Thursday night from 7 until 8:30 PM and at other times at the home of his son, Jamie Chappell, 1057 CHappell Trail, Vernon Hill.
