Thomas Russell Conner

SOUTH BOSTON Mr. Thomas Russell Conner passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the age of 97.Born in Warren County, NC on September 27, 1920, he was the son of the late Willie Russell Conner and the late Mattie Lynch Conner and was married to Estelle “Frances” Hazelwood Conner. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII where he fought battles in Italy, France, Germany and Austria. His battalion, 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion, was among the only ones to serve in all of the major battles.Following his discharge from the military, he worked with Virginia Dairy for more than twenty years.He was a member of North Fork Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, Estelle “Frances” Conner, he is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services for Mr. Conner will be conducted Friday, May 4, 2018 at 10:00 AM at North Fork Baptist Church with Reverend Doug Ballew officiating.Burial will follow at 2:00 PM in Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Richmond, VA with military honors. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 3, 2018 at North Fork Baptist Church from 6:00-8:00 PM.
