Thomas Grey Hayes

Thomas Gray Hayes, age 89, completed his earthly journey and left to be with God on Saturday July 21, 2018. He was born in Mecklenburg County on March 31, 1929 to the late Larnie Graham and Haskins Hudson Hayes.His faithful wife, Charlotte Puckett Hayes, was by his side every day.Thomas was retired from Burlington Industries after 40 years of dedicated service to the company.He was also a farmer outside of this career.His real passion was in service to the Lord, however.A member of Averett Baptist Church, Thomas was a Deacon, Choir Member, and Sunday School teacher who loved nothing more than to share his faith with others.This passion extended further to his favorite pastime, singing, with Thomas being a key member in a gospel quartet. Thomas was preceded in death by sisters, Carrie Lee Spain, Dorothy Hite, and Mary Thompson. He is survived by his sons, Linwood Martin Hayes (Renae) of Suwanee, GA, Allen Larnie Hayes (Teresa) of Clarksville, VA, and Thomas Ray Hayes of Nelson, VA.He is further survived by his grandchildren, Summer Bynum Lykins, T.J. Hayes, Christopher Hayes, and Nathan Lykins. A funeral service for Thomas will be held at Averett Baptist Church at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2018 and there will be a visitation prior to the service at 1:30pm. Interment will follow the funeral at Oakhurst Cemetery.
