CLARKSVILLE, VA. Thomas Benson McWhite, 60, of Clarksville, VA passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014. He was born November 6, 1954 in Greenwood, SC to Benson Carwile McWhite and Toby L. Thompson. Tom was raised in Clarksville, VA. He worked 30 years for the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control as a Regional Manager supervising retail operations. A member of the Masons for 29 years, Tom was past Master of the Chase City Masonic Lodge # 119 AFAM. He was also a member of Kenbridge Volunteer Fire Department in the early 1980’s. In 1999, Tom moved to Massanutten. Through his job at Massanutten “The Nutt” Resort, Fareways restaurant, fishing and many rounds of golf, Tom amassed many dear friends. He was loved by everyone and loved everyone in return. Tom is survived by his daughter Amanda W. McWhite of Richmond; son Matthew C. McWhite of Bristol, VA; sisters Mary McWhite Carter of Clarksville and Nancy McWhite Tackett of South Hill; brothers John E. McWhite of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and William L. McWhite of Latta, SC. Tom is further survived by his father and step-mother Benson C. and Martha A. McWhite of Greenville, SC and his mother Toby L. Thompson of Clarksville. He is also survived by his step-brothers John Lewis McWhite and his wife, Anglea, Robert Neil McWhite and his wife, Sally and Bill Thompson, Jr. and step-sisters, Nancy McWhite Concannon and her husband, Douglas and Jackie T. Bracey and her husband, Bobby, numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. Tom was preceded in death by his step-father, William H. Thompson, Sr. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home.
