In May, 1935, Brooks Funeral Home began serving families of Southern Virginia and Northern North Carolina from their South Boston, VA location. The three story brick building on the corner of Main Street and Seymour Drive has been the headquarters for all aspects of funeral service as well as apartments for numerous families and sleeping spaces for many of the on-call personnel. During the past eighty years, thousands of people have been in this building for funeral planning, visitations, funerals, and many have made the upstairs their residence. May, 2014 Brooks became Brooks Lyon Funeral Home. Owners Michael and Jane Lyon began immediately accessing the needs of the community and the facility's ability to perform. After consulting with local civil engineers, general contractors, and appropriate consultants it became obvious that the original Brooks building had fulfilled its mission. It was determined by these professionals that the original building was no longer safe or viable. "It's with mixed emotions and nostalgia that it must be taken down", said Michael Lyon All of us at Brooks Lyon have feelings of extreme sadness. We realize that is a feeling you may have also. The need to change can create within people a sense of grief, loss, and sentimental journey. We invite everyone who’s lives have been touched in this building, and anyone interested, to join the staff of Brooks Lyon on Sunday, April 24,2016 at 2:00 P.M. for “A Time For Sharing Memories.”
