Tobitha (Toby) Loftis Thompson

Clarksville, VA- Mrs. Tobitha “Toby” Loftis Thompson, wife of the late William H. Thompson, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019, at the age of 88. She was born in Abbeville, SC, on July 17, 1930 to the late John Evans Loftis and Lula Watkins Loftis. Toby, along with her late husband, owned and operated Thompson Pharmacy. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. If she wasn’t in the pharmacy or with her family, you could find her and Thompson on a golf course. Toby is survived by her children, Mary C. Carter of Richmond, VA, John E. McWhite (Daphne) of Ocean Isle, NC, William L. McWhite of Latta, SC, Nancy M. Tackett (Tim) of South Hill, VA, Jackie T. Bracey (Bobby) of Greensboro, NC, and Bill Thompson, Jr. of Clarksville, VA. She is also survived by grandchildren, Jay Carter (Anne), Gregory Silverman, Amanda McWhite, Matthew McWhite (Abbey), MariCatherine McWhite, Caroline Suits (Jordan), and Michael McWhite; step-grandsons, Austin Tackett (Hilary) and Colby Tackett; as well as great-grandchildren, Paige Carter, Sheppard Carter and step-great grandsons, Bryson Tackett, Levi Tackett, Warner Tackett and Abram Tackett. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Thomas Benson McWhite and step-daughter, Geraldine Buchannon. In memory of Toby Thompson and in keeping with her wishes, friends and family are welcomed at the home of her daughter, Nancy Tackett, on Sunday, July 7, 2019 from 2 – 6 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to the American Cancer Society, Clarksville Fire Department or Mecklenburg County Life Saving & Rescue Squad be considered.
