Clarksville, VA - Vearl Franklin Camp passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at the age of 89. He was born on July 1, 1930, in Stockton, New York, to the late Anna May Bailey and Vearl F. Camp. Vearl was raised under the name of Clair Walton by Nellie and Amos Leroy Walton until he joined the U.S. Army on July 20, 1949. Vearl drove an ambulance in the Medical Corps at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C.It was there that he met his bride, Joy Nell Alderman Camp. They married on January 5, 1951 and a celebration of 69 years together was held this year on their anniversary. Vearl was honorably discharged on May 13, 1954. He worked in various professions, but mostly as a machinist in his working years after the Army. Vearl and Joy moved to Chase City, VA in 2006, then moved to Clarksville, VA in March 2018. Vearl enjoyed hunting and fishing as lifelong hobbies. In later years, he enjoyed woodworking and building birdhouses. He is survived by a brother, Clyde Camp (Judy) of Warren, PA; two daughters, Paula Ariene Camp and Mona Marie Moody (James); four grandchildren Shane, Rebecca, Jennifer and Sean and many great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Vearl is preceded in death by his son, Russell Dean Camp, two grandchildren, Jr. and Faith, two sisters, Mildred Davis and Estella Lindvay, two half brothers, Charles and Eugene Nichols, and a brother he was raised with, William “Bill” Walton.
