Vera Bray Carter

Mrs. Vera Bray Carter, 89, widow of George Meredith Carter, died Sunday, September 12, 2004 at her residence. Born July 16, 1915 in Granville County, NC to James Ransom and Mattie Florence Puryear Bray, she was reared in Mecklenburg County. Mrs. Carter retired from Boydton Elementary School, Keefer Yancey's Restaurant and The Lighthouse Restaurant. Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Pat Neilsen at 11 AM Wednesday in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Fields United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Carter is survived by three daughters, Juanita Ashby of Chase City, Irene Dunn of Boydton and Linda Tingen of Ladysmith; son Jerry Mitchell Carter of Williamsburg; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Floyd Willard Carter and two children, Barbara Lindholm and Floyd Ray Carter.
