Virginia Ellen Long Satterfield

Mrs. Virginia Ellen Long Satterfield of 1007 Piney Grove Rd., Alton died Monday, April 11, 2011 at the age of 91. She was born in Halifax Co., VA on June 21, 1919 to the late George Morgan Long and the late Mannie Dale Satterfield Long and was married to the late Samuel Wilson Satterfield for 74 years. Mrs. Satterfield was a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia S. Walden and husband, Sam of Danville, VA; three sons, Eugene Satterfield and wife, Barbara of Alton, VA, George Sammy Satterfield and wife, Sue of South Boston, and Owen Satterfield and wife, Barbara of Halifax; a son-in-law, Carlton Williams of South Boston; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Estelle Satterfield Williams, five sisters, and three brothers. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 2:00 PM in Olive Branch United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Bob Woodfin officiating. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral home Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 PM. The family requests that those wishing to give memorials please consider your favorite charity.
