Mrs. Virginia Yancey Harris of 4061 River Rd., South Boston died Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the age of 82. She was born in Halifax Co. on April 15, 1928 to the late Willie & Lottie Thomas Yancey and was married to Jesse J. Harris. Mrs. Harris was employed by Burlington Industries in the weave room office for 49 years and was a member of Second Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Jesse J. Harris of the home; three sons, Mike Harris and wife, Elizabeth H. of South Boston, Jimmy Harris and wife, Tina L. of South Boston, and Dale Harris and wife, Susan L. of Chesapeake; a sister, Eunice Y. Slayton and husband, James of Vernon Hill; two brothers, L. Berkley Yancey and wife, Ruby H. of Halifax, and Melvin Yancey & wife, Natalie of South Boston; six grandchildren, Barry Harris, Tracey Harris, Brandy Fowler, Charles A. Harris, Samantha L. Harris, and Cody L. Harris; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Frances Y. Brown & husband, Richard, and Lottie Irene Yancey (deceased at age 5). Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Linderman and Rev. Horace Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Thursday, June 17 from 7 until 8:30 PM. The family respectfully requests visiting at funeral home only.
