Virginia Hager Jones

Mrs. Virginia Hager Jones of Tazewell, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at her home on 229 Goshen Hill Road in Tazewell at the age of 90. Born September 17, 1915, she was a daughter of the late George Burton Hager and Hattie Gilpin Hager. During her married years, she and her husband, Greer M. Jones, lived in Mecklenburg and Charlotte counties. Most of her life she was a dedicated member of Concord United Methodist Church in Gratton, her hometown church, serving as piano player. While living away from Tazewell, she was a member of Clarksville Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Order of Easter Star, Chapter 145 in Clarkville. Virginia was also an honorary member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Bluefield Chapter. At an early age she was appointed Clerk of the Tazewell County School Board, from 1937-1976. In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Greer M. Jones; sisters, Margaret Hager Cox, Gladys Hager Johnson and Pauline Hager Bruton; brother Charles George Hager. She is survived by five nieces and two great nieces. A memorial graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at the Oakhurst Cemetery. Pastors Charles and Margaret Poteat of Raleigh, NC will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made on her behalf to the Four Seasons Wellness Center c/o Tazewell Community Hospital, Attention: Public Relations Department, 141 Ben Bolt Avenue Tazewell, VA 24651.
