Virginia Vaughan Newcomb entered into the presence of the Lord on May 1, 2023. She is now reunited in heaven with her husband of 59 years, Otis Taft Newcomb; her son Phillip; brothers, James, Chester and Willie; and sister, Margaret. In early April, Virginia celebrated her 103 birthday with family and friends. She was born on April 9, 1920 to Buford and Sallie Vaughan, in the town of Scottsburg, Virginia.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving son, Douglas and wife, Deborah, and two beloved sisters, Gracy and Frances. Virginia is also lovingly remembered by grandson Michael and wife, Rita and grandson Mark and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Preston.
After raising her sons, Virginia focused her energy and talents to pursue a degree in nursing from the School of Practical Nursing at South Boston's Halifax Community Hospital. In her yearbook, "The White Cap" she earned the superlative "Speedy Gonzales." She graduated in 1969 and worked for the next 15 years as an LPN at Halifax/South Boston Community Hospital.
Virginia was a faithful member of McCanless Memorial United Methodist Church in South Boston.
