W. J. "Dunnie" Nichols

HALIFAX, VA Mr. W. J. “Dunnie” Nichols, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the age of 89.Born in Clover, VA on October 31, 1928, he was the son of the late Willie Johnson Nichols, Sr. and the late Rebecca Glidewell Nichols and was married to Carolyn Lacks Nichols. Dunnie was a graduate of Clover High School, class of 1947, and was a member of Clover Baptist Church.He served his country in the Army during the Korean conflict. In his early working years, he was a salesman for Crowell Motor Co. He was the owner/operator of Nichols Trucking from 1969-2000. In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Lynne “Becky” Nichols of Halifax; sons, Willie Johnson “Nick” Nichols, III of South Boston and Darrell Lee Nichols and wife, Dana of Halifax; grandchildren, Paige Marie Nichols, Grant Lee Nichols and Reid Catherine Nichols. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Catherine N. Walker, Esther N. Tuttle, Inez N. Chandler, Ada N. Kuhn, Faye N. Long and his twin sister, Myra Gaye N. Lawrence. A Celebration of Life for Mr. Nichols will be Thursday, May 10, 2018 at First Baptist Church in South Boston at 2:00 PM with Reverend Dr. Bob Balance officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 1:00-2:00 PM at First Baptist Church and other times the home, 3191 North Terry's Bridge Road, Halifax.
