Norfolk – Walter Elmer Schwartz, Sr., 92, died on March 20, 2012 after a decline in health. Born December 25, 1919 in Reading, PA, he was the son of Clarence and Clara Schwartz. He served in every major invasion in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, and he retired from the U.S. Naval Fire Department after 30 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 1097. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Louise Ashworth Schwartz, 2 sisters, 5 brothers, and his twin sister, Ethel Wynona. Survivors include his children, Sandra Louise Nethery, Lynne Marie Davis Jim, Walter E. Schwartz, Jr. "Buddy" Rose, Robert Clay Schwartz, Melody Rose Thomas Mike, and "Bea" Clara McLin Will; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren; his brother, Elwood Schwartz Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 6:30pm on Friday, March 23, 2012 at Norview Baptist Church in Norfolk. Burial will be in the Schoolfield Cemetery in Danville, Va. on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Post 1097, Danville, VA or the M E Cox Center in Va Beach, VA.
